IEA looks forward to global energy development prospects by 2040

Xinhua News Agency, Paris, November 13th (Reporter Chen Chen) The International Energy Agency released the World Energy Outlook 2019 at its headquarters in Paris on the 13th. Through the analysis of the latest data on global energy markets and technology development and energy industry development issues, the global to 2040 The outlook for energy development in the year is prospected.

The report predicts that by combining multiple factors, global energy demand will grow at a rate of 1% per year by 2040, which is much lower than the 2.3% growth level in 2018. Due to the popularity of more energy-efficient cars and electric vehicles, global crude oil demand will peak in the 1930s.

Under the premise of sustainable development, the report predicts that global natural gas demand will continue to increase before 2030, and then decline; low-carbon energy demand will rise; and coal consumption will decrease significantly. By 2040, the daily demand for oil will be 67 million barrels, equivalent to the level of the early 1990s.

From a country perspective, China is still the world ’s largest energy consumer, and India ’s energy demand will grow fastest. The growth of China's oil demand is expected to peak in the early 1930s. At the same time, oil consumption in the United States is steadily declining. China will become the world's largest oil consumer by 2040.

The International Energy Agency pointed out that between 2017 and 2018, China's natural gas consumption increased by 33%; by 2040, the proportion of natural gas in China's energy structure will rise from the current 7% to 13%.

Laura Kozi, chief energy analyst and head of the energy demand outlook department of the International Energy Agency, said in an interview with Xinhua News Agency that China has long made a positive contribution to the global energy transition, such as reducing the cost of photovoltaics to China and the world. Useful. In addition, China also plays an active role in developing clean energy technologies such as onshore and offshore wind power, and promoting electric vehicles.

"The IEA has always maintained close cooperation with China, for example in the areas of renewable energy, energy efficiency and natural gas reform. I believe we will deepen cooperation in more areas in the future."
